what imagination could contrive

Project Description

Duet built as part of New Expressive Works (N.E.W) creative residency in Portland, Oregon.
Music: Collage, including selections by Federico Albanese, Jon Hopkins, and Michael Wall.
Projection: Segments filmed by Sean Hoskins and Jessica Post, edited by Post.

Themes explored:

  • Inspired by the Griffin and Sabine trilogy by Nick Bantock, in which the two characters correspond but are never in the same space and time; we adopted this choreographically — throughout most of the dance we do not see each other. .

  • Focus on bending relationships and disrupting reality, suggesting a dreamlike, alternate type of presence.

Performance
December 2024 at N.E.W. in Portland, OR

Notes
With the exception of one weekend very late in the process, we created this dance work remotely, with Sean in Michigan, and Jessica in Portland. The creative residency entailed weekly rehearsals, June - November, and group showings were conducted over Zoom.
